Baby Basics Volunteer Day
Last week, some of team Rainbow spent the day at Baby Basics in Portsmouth, one of Rainbow’s very important charity partners. Baby Basics are a nationwide charity who provide much needed essentials and equipment to parents and families who are unable to provide these items for themselves.
In 2023, the Portsmouth branch, close to Rainbow’s Operations Centre in Hampshire, supported over 3,000 newborns from healthcare professional referrals, not to mention supporting families with children in other age categories too. Thanks to generous donations, Baby Basics are able to offer these families, all the essentials they need from clothing through to large ticket items such as cots and travel systems.
Each week, Baby Basics receives donations of bags of baby clothes, and the team spent a number of hours, sorting, washing, ironing, folding and sizing the clothes, before storing them away in their retrospective age and gender categories, all ready for when a referral is received. Sian Greenslade, Customer Services Manager, at Rainbow Designs said Sian Greenslade, Customer Services Manager, at Rainbow Designs said “It was really good to find out more about the charity and just how many families they help, us volunteering that day saved the Centre’s Volunteer team 4 days of work, allowing them prepare even more packages for collection.”
At Rainbow, we donate a large volume of baby toys, including ring rattles, comforters and My First Soft Toys, to Baby Basics to include in their signature Moses Basket package. Alongside the obvious essentials, these are important items for baby’s development and wellbeing, and it was lovely to see some of our toys being sent out to families whilst we were there.
